A barbecue last summer for some of the folk from Mrs. Satis’ work. Everyone brought a little something, including one guy who brought about $150 of halal lamb. Veggie kebobs were the order of the day, though. Credit to Donjin, who spent over an hour in 100°F heat cooking for us. And me, who took a picture of it.

Thought of the Week: Slowing Down to Speed Up
Well, dear friends: we are over halfway through the year, and we’ve talked about a lot of things. We talked about the incomprehensibility of children, about why sleeping is generally a good idea, and how it sucks to be a drummer. We looked at a lizard that shoots blood from its eyes, and learned that Margaret Thatcher was a chemist. We’ve enjoyed over 80 beautiful, ugly and inane photos. And through all of that, I’ve been madly scrabbling away in the background trying to make it all happen whilst at the same time coping with my rather under par brain functions.
There are a few things I haven’t got done, though; one of them (two of them) is (are) The Redemption of Erâth. I had really, really hoped to have the first book out by now, and though it’s coming close, it’s just not quite there yet. I’ve also stagnated on book two for several months now, having abandoned it at chapter 9. I re-read it recently, and it’s good – better than the first book, I think – but I need the time to continue working on it.
And that’s what it really boils down to: time. If I were free of the various mental instabilities that delight in coursing through my brain like acid eating away at my synapses, I’d probably be laughing, saying, “What are you talking about? Give me more to do!” Sadly this isn’t the case. I’ve come to the realization that, in order to continue with my books and make the progress that I really wish to make on them, I’m going to have to slow down other areas of my life. Just for the moment.
What does this mean for us? We’re not breaking up – fear not. We might just…see less of each other. Just for a while. You’re still welcome to come around, and we’ll have a lovely chat when you do. Just don’t be disappointed if I seem distracted.
Here’s what’s going to happen: starting now, I’ll be retiring (temporarily, I hope) The Devil’s Details, Movie Night and Poems. I will continue with Thought of the Week and Daily Photos (mainly because these I can set up in advance and autopost on the right day). I may continue with Music I Love, simply because it’s only once a month.
However – the return will hopefully be that I will begin posting new chapters from The Redemption of Erâth: Exile, which should be awfully exciting! This is an eventful time, and Consolation is getting ever closer to true, genuine publication. So bear with me, friends – I’m not going away, I’m just slowing down.
In the meantime, thank you – thank you for your support, your readership and your companionship on this mysterious journey.
We’ll keep talking!

The Devil’s Details: Don’t Insult Me Through Spam Comments!
I don’t usually check the Spam section of the comments here, because the filter is generally pretty accurate. However, every once in a while the number builds up, and I go and check it out for a laugh. The thing that really amuses me is the atrocious English and the utterly generic content that is intended to be applicable to any post of any kind – except they’re not. Time after time I’m praised for the “information” on my site; I rarely post information of any kind.
“This is the right blog for anyone who wants to learn about this topic. You realize so much its pretty much difficult to argue with you (not that I truly would want?-HaHa). You absolutely put a new spin on a topic thats been written about for years. Fantastic stuff, just great!”
Some of it, on the other hand, is nearly unintelligible:
“Continue to maintain up the pretty very good operate. I just extra up your RSS feed to my MSN News Reader.”
Or:
“However never the actual significantly less it turned out stimulating.”
The point is, they’re always praising me, sucking up and hoping I’ll click the link to their website. Sometimes I do for fun, so I suppose their goal was achieved.
But then the other day, I got this one:
“The next time I read a weblog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as a lot as this 1. I mean, I know it was my selection to read, but I basically thought youd have something intriguing to say. All I hear is often a bunch of whining about some thing that you simply could fix if you happen to werent too busy seeking for attention.”
I mean hey, come on – if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all! Apparently I could fix all my problems if I didn’t spend all my time seeking attention.
Hm. I think the whole point of my blog is to get people to read it, so yes – I do want attention. But next time, don’t insult me!
