The Story Behind the Photo: August 5, 2009

Dark evening clouds over Meadowhall.

When I lived in Sheffield, I worked at the city’s largest mall, Meadowhall. An industrial town, the mall was built to match. Rumor has it that, as one of the first malls in the country, its success was so uncertain that it was designed to be converted to a prison with a minimum of effort should it not survive as a mall.

I have a lot of fond memories of working here, and few that I’d rather forget; still, walking out at night to the dark skies and bright lights was always captivating.

The following day was bright and sunny, and a trip out to Strines Moor came across a lonely bridge and a lost road marker.

Winter sun over Crosspool.

Early morning sun over Crosspool, in Sheffield. Loved that backyard.
